Irish midfielder Stephen Ireland insists he is ready to fight for his place in the Manchester City team.
The 22-year-old was City’s best player last season, but face more competition for his place in the team this season.
“I have always felt my place is under pressure. I’ve never taken it for granted and I never will,” he told The Sun.
“I’m just happy to be part of what we’re doing here. I want to become a better player and I’m in the right place.
“If I’m not in the starting line-up for the first game I won’t be bitter, because it is a long season. I would be happy to be part of such a strong squad.
“I will get my chance – and if it comes after 15 games, then fair enough. If I finish the season in the first team, who is going to remember who played there at the start?
“It’s absolutely brilliant to be part of something like this. This is what you want from your life and your career.
“With what we’ve got at the club, no one’s place is guaranteed. We know we are all fighting for one of those 11 places.
“You should see us in training. Everyone is hungry and aggressive and everyone wants to win. So just being in the squad is amazing.”
