Is Danny Ings too good for Real Sociedad?

Burnley striker Danny Ings is fast emerging as one of the most in-demand young players in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has impressed in his debut season in the English top-flight and has attracted interest from some of the leagues big boys.

Ings has scored nine Premier League goals this season and has found the net five times in his last seven top-flight appearances for the Clarets.

Contract

It seems inevitable that the highly-rated Ings will leave the club from Lancashire this summer, as he will be a free agent this summer.

Burnley are obviously desperate to keep the striker, but it seems they are fighting a losing battle.

Even Clarets boss Sean Dyche has accepted the fact that Ings will leave. Talking about Ings and speculation linking him with a move to David Moyes’ Real Sociedad, Dyche told Sky’s Goals on Sunday: “I think we all know his development needs to continue and that’s in the Premier League,”

“The middle of La Liga is no use for a young player, I don’t personally think so – albeit it is a great standard. I think he’s better than that. I think he’s top end of the Premier League.

“He would only move abroad for financial reasons. It’s not for development. His development is top end of the Premier League. It’s the most powerful league in the world.

Linked

Ings fine form this season reportedly attracted the attention of the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool in the January transfer window. However, the Clarets avoided the temptation of cashing in on their star striker, as they are in the relegation scrap at the bottom of the Premier League table.

With the striker in good form both clubs could return for him in the summer. In a twist though, Ings was recently photographed boarding a plane to Spain. The purpose of the visit reportedly to speak to Real Sociedad boss David Moyes about a move to San Sebastian.

Ings has been linked with the La Liga side for a while now and it would be something of a coup for the Basque club to sign the highly-rated Ings, especially if he continues in his rich vein of form for the Clarets until the end of the season.

Liverpool seemed like the favourites to sign Ings in the summer and a move to Tottenham would also offer the striker a chance to develop his game at the top end of the Premier League.

Development

I believe that Sean Dyche is right in his assessment that Ings should stay in the Premier League and develop his talents in his own country. He has undoubted talent and is still a young player in terms of development.

Ings is a very intelligent footballer and will only get better with the right nurturing and more experience in the English top-flight. He would also benefit from playing alongside some very good players at Liverpool and Tottenham.

Ings does have scope for real improvement in his game and whether a move to Spain would be a good one at this point his career would be questionable.

However, one tabloid reported this morning that Real Sociedad are willing to triple Ings current wages to lure him to Spain this summer. If he stays in the Premier League he is still likely to earn far more cash than he is currently, so he has a difficult decision ahead.

Concentrate

I am sure that Danny Ings is currently concentrating on keeping up his good form and attempting to keep Burnley in the Premier League for next season.

Whether Burnley survive or are relegated it seems that Danny Ings is off to pastures new next season, if that is to Spain or not remains to be seen, but the striker does seem to have a bright future ahead of him. Maybe that future includes developing his game abroad.

Which club will win the race to sign Danny Ings this summer?
