Former-QPR boss Neil Warnock has been appointed as the new boss of Leeds United.
Warnock has signed a contract until the end of the 2012/13 season.
The veteran boss has replaced Simon Grayson as the Whites boss, who was fired on 1st February.
Time
The club has taken their time in selecting their man. The likes of Lee Clark and Mick McCarthy were both considered as potential bosses but it was the experienced Warnock who the club has turned to rescue their season.
Play-offs
Leeds currently sit in 11th position in the Championship table but are just six points behind the play-off positions. It doesn’t look impossible for United to make the play-offs this season. The Whites failed to make the play-offs last season after an awful end to their season.
However the situation at the club isn’t terrible for Warnock’s new team. Warnock just happens to be a promotion specialist and he could do it yet again. At this point of the season Warnock looks a good appointment.
Resources
Neil Warnock has always been able to operate on a restricted budget and that is what he is likely to face at Elland Road. At QPR he spent a little bit of money but he was never given a fortune to spend by any stretch of the imagine.
However he managed to build a team that won the Championship and challenge reasonably in the top flight. Warnock has the knack of building promotion winning sides and Leeds chairman Ken Bates must believe the former-QPR boss can repeat the trick at Elland Road.
Man-manager
Neil Warnock is a superb man-manager at this level of football. He tends to get the best out of average players. Leeds have some good players for Warnock to work with but they also have some very average players.
I’m sure the new boss will be able to get a lot of his new squad. Whether it will be good enough to challenge for promotion this season is another matter.
Massive
Leeds United are one of the biggest, if not the biggest club in the second tier of English football. The fans and club have high expectations and they should do for the size of their club. The Whites have suffered badly in recent years with relegation to the third tier of English football the lowest point.
The club now look to be back on a good steady footing and seem ready to challenge for a return to the top flight. Chairman Ken Bates seems reluctant to spend money on strengthening the squad and in recent seasons manager Simon Grayson has lost his best players.
Shrewd
The appointment of Warnock is a shrewd one in my opinion. His appointment seems to have divided opinion amongst the Leeds fans though. Warnock is an acquired taste as a person. It seems people either love him or hate him.
Leeds fans will have their own opinions on their new boss but I’m sure given time Neil Warnock will get the Whites back to where they want to be, the Premier League.
Is Neil Warnock a good choice for Leeds boss?
