David Beckham could prove difference tonightThis evening we will see one of biggest derbies in the world. None of the recent Milan derbies between AC Milan and Internazionale (Inter) has meant as much as tonight’s.

Chance

The reason for the excitement around this fixture is the fact that AC could make up major ground on their previously all dominant rivals Inter.

With a victory over their city rivals the Rossoneri will go just three points behind the Nerazzurri and will also have a game in-hand.

That would prove a major shift in the power of the Italian game. Its been a long time since AC have competed domestically with Inter. Inter have won the last four Serie A titles and nobody has really challenged their dominance.

Form

Milan had a poor start to the season but an improvement in recent months has saw them get closer to their rivals. The return to form of Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho has proved the vital factor in his clubs return to form. He must be really close to a return to the Brazilian national team squad, because he is in the best form since his arrival at the San Siro.

Wary

Despite having already beating AC 4-0 in their first meeting of the season, Inter will be wary of Milan’s current good run of form. They have looked nervy and struggled in their last two Serie A games. In fact in their last game against Bari they had had to comeback from two goals down to rescue a draw. Not exactly ideal preparation for what could prove a pivotal game in their season.

Complacent

Inter seem to be complacent at the moment. They expect to win every game but are struggling because they they expect to win with little to no effort. If they don’t start putting more effort in and stop being complacent they could get a wake-up call very soon.

They have taken for granted that they haven’t had opponents capable of challenging them for the Scudetto but Milan could finally be ready to give their neighbours a real run for their money. However I don’t think Jose Mourinho will let complacent last long for Inter, so Milan need to take advantage of that complacent.

Missing

Inter are missing their top striker Samuel Eto’o, who is away on international duty with Cameroon at the African Cup of Nations. The 28 year-old has became a key figure in Mourinho’s squad since joining the club from Barcelona in the summer. His absence could give AC Milan just the boost they need ahead of tonight’s vital clash.

Beckham

David Beckham creates interest wherever he goes, but he will prove a solid signing for AC. He adds a bit of extra vision and skill to the AC Milan midfield. He is also good to have in the dressing room. Beckham also provides superb work rate and is great physical shape for player of his age.

When Beckham moves to AC Milan it seems everybody’s a winner. He gets the football he needs, AC Milan get a good if aging classy player and LA Galaxy get to unload his wages for a few months. Beckham’s vast experience will prove invaluable in a derby game like tonight’s.

Must Win Game

Inter will have to play better in this clash than in previous games. If they don’t up their game I can see AC seizing their opportunity and winning this game. Inter need to steady themselves and play like the assured side Inter fans are more accustomed to watching.

Milan boss Leonardo will see this as a perfect opportunity to gain victory over the Nerazzurri with their city rivals struggling for form. The Brazilian will also know that if they lose then Inter will again have a comfortable lead at the top of the Serie A table. Its a must win game for both clubs and as early in the season as it is could prove to be the deciding game in the title race.
