Is the Eredivisie the place to shop for Premier League clubs this summer?

The Dutch Eredivisie has been a fantastic source of quality players for Premier League teams in recent years.

The likes of Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen and Swansea’s outstanding keeper Michel Vorm are just two players to have emerged from the Dutch top flight in recent seasons.

And it seems that the Dutch top flight is the place to shop this summer for English clubs looking for quality players at reasonable prices.

Here are just a few names being linked with moves to the Premier League:

Jan Vertonghen (Ajax)

The Belgium international isn’t just being linked with a move to one Premier League club but two. Both North London sides Tottenham and Arsenal have been linked with signing the centre-back. Vertonghen has been highly-rated for some time and it looks like he will get his big move this summer.

According to Tottenham midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart his club is close to sealing a deal for the 25 year-old. The Ajax man is rated in the £8million bracket.

Luuk De Jong (FC Twente)

Luuk De Jong is one of most highly-rated youngsters to emerge from the Dutch game for along time. The 21 year-old striker has found the net 32 times in all competitions this season and it has lead to him being with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.

The young Dutchman is rated at £12.5million and according to boss Steve McClaren he is ideal for the English game. De Jong is big and strong and appears to have all the attributes needed to be a top striker in the Premier League.

De Jong is already a Dutch international and could be in the Holland squad for Euro 2012. The youngster favours a move to England and he could get his wish this summer.

Bas Dost (Heerenveen)

The giant striker has had an impressive season at Heerenveen, scoring 31 goals in all competitions for the side chasing Champions League qualification for next season. The 6ft 4 inch striker is definitely a player that would fit the English game.

At 22 years of age he is blossoming into a striker worthy of a place in one of the top leagues in Europe. Dost is another Eredivisie star being chased by a host of Premier League clubs including Tottenham, Newcastle and Everton.

The Dutch league maybe an easier league to score goals in than the Premier League but Dost has an obvious ability to find the net. He may well be finding net the back of the net in the Premier League next season.

Rasmus Elm (AZ Alkmaar)

Another Eredivisie star attracting Premier League interest is AZ’s Swedish midfielder Rasmus Elm. The 24 year-old Sweden international has just a year left on his contract at AZ and the club has admitted they may be forced into selling him if a new contract can’t be agreed.

Elm is highly-rated and is attracting interest from Liverpool and Manchester United. Elm has been heavily linked with a move to Everton and Fulham in the past few seasons but decided to move to the Eredivisie. However this summer he could be arriving in the Premier League.

Nacer Chadli (FC Twente)

The Belgium international is hot property but according to press reports he could be on the verge of a £2.5million move to Premier League Fulham. The 22 year-old winger had previously been linked with Tottenham and Manchester United but Chadli’s agent has confirmed a move to Fulham is very close.

Value

The Eredivisie definitely offers value for money for quality young players and this summer could prove no different. No doubt there will be a host of players heading to the Premier League this summer from the Dutch top flight.

.. non of the players reached the 20 million euro mark. With that kind of talent those players have, it truly is a bargain. But, we’ll just hope that they won’t become another Drenthe who’s an utter disappointment.
