Toulouse’s Issa Diop is about to undergo a medical ahead of his move to West Ham United today (Monday), Sky Sports have reported.
Monaco and Marseille have been keen on keeping the 21-year-old in Ligue 1, while RB Leipzig and Sevilla wanted to take him to Germany and Spain, respectively. However, West Ham have made signing Diop one of their top priorities for this summer’s transfer window and the youngster seems set to move to the Premier League, as manager Manuel Pellegrini works tirelessly to overhaul the Hammers’ squad.
Diop was born in Toulouse and has spent his entire career so far, consisting of three seasons, at his hometown club, making 85 appearances and scoring 5 goals in that time. Standing 6’4” tall, the centre-back is very formidable in the air, very strong, and his no-nonsense approach to defending makes him very suitable for the physicality of the Premier League. He played for France at all youth levels, from U16 to U21, but he is yet to appear for the senior national team.
