Speaking to the press on Friday ahead of Manchester City’s Community Shield defeat to Leicester City, boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed the Premier League champions are indeed interested in signing Harry Kane, but he also said that everything depended on the striker’s current club, Tottenham Hotspur.
City had a £100m offer for Kane rejected in June but their interest persists. For his part, the England captain obviously wants the Etihad switch and in order to force the issue, he did not appear at the Spurs training centre until Saturday, even though he was expected to report there on Monday.
“He is a player for Tottenham Hotspur and if Tottenham don’t want to negotiate, it is finished,” Guardiola said.
“I think Man City and many clubs in the world want to try to sign him, we are not an exception, but it depends on Tottenham.”
Spurs new boss Nuno Espirito Santo still hasn’t had the chance to discuss the issue with the striker, who is currently in quarantine until Thursday and training alone.
