(GSM) – Italian Dario Bonetti is the new coach of the Zambian national team, the country’s FA confirmed Thursday.
Chairman of the Zambian football association, former football star Bwalya Kalusha, unveiled the signing of Bonetti: “We think we have found the right man. We wanted experience at the highest level as well as youthful enthusiasm.”
Bonetti’s experience at the top level is actually limited as a manager, although he did spend years of his playing career at Italian giants AS Roma, Milan and Juventus.
Bonetti, 48, succeeds Herve Renard who left Zambia to manage the Angolan national team last April.
Zambia has never reached a World Cup but did finish second twice at the African Cup of Nations. Earlier this year, the team reached the quarter finals at Africa’s most important tournament.
