Italy are close to a spot in the round of sixteen of the 2009 World Youth Championship following a 2-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Monday.

Following the goalless draw with Paraguay in their tournament opener, Italy needed a better result against T&T.

The Azzurrini went ahead with a goal from Michelangelo Albertazzi after 39 minutes at Cairo International Stadium, but had their goal cancelled out by Juma Clarence seven minutes after the hour.

The winning goal came with 12 minutes to go, and was scored by Italy’s Silvano Garibaldi.

Italy play their next match against Egypt on Thursday, while Trinidad and Tobago, who are practically eliminated, get one last chance against Paraguay.
