Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has made it clear that he plans to finish his career in the United States.
The 30-year-old remains an important player for both club and country, but he is already thinking about hanging up his boots, albeit in four or five years.
Chiellini does not plan to leave Italian giants Juventus any time soon, but he does want to experience the MLS football before he calls an end to his career.
“I see retirement as a far away moment, but sooner or later I’m going to have to think about it. It seems more likely to be at 34-35 than 38,” the experienced defender told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Hopefully I’ll hang up my boots after an experience in the USA, just to see what it’s like to live there.”
While revealing he had been close to joining Roma and an English Premier League club in 2004 and 2007 respectively, Chiellini has spent his entire career up to date in Italy, playing for Livorno, Fiorentina and Juventus.
He has developed into one of Europe’s top defenders since leaving Viola for their arch rivals and amassed a total of 263 Serie A appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring 22 goals.
