Odds: 1/2 @ Bet 365

Spain lock horns with Italy at the Stade de France in the last-16 of the European Championships, and are favourites to book their place in the quarter-finals in a game that could well go the distance.

The two sides have locked horns a lot in recent international tournaments, but Italy have always been on the wrong end of a defeat to La Roja, most notably suffering a 4-0 defeat in the Euro 2012 final.

Both sides lost their last group game ahead of today’s meeting, but Italy managed to hold on to their place at the summit. However, the Azzurri were unfortunate to come up against Spain and have a big task to get a result. They last met in a friendly this year, which ended as a 1-1 draw, and in normal time the result could be similar.

Italy have beaten Belgium and Sweden with their strongest side, and have conceded just one goal in the group ahead of their clash with the European champions so they will be hard to break down. As for their opponents, Spain finished behind Croatia in Group C, having lost their final game to cost them a place at the summit, while struggling for goals at times.

As a result, their encounter at the Stade de France could well go to extra time given how tactical the last-16 outing is sure to be, but Spain are being backed by Bet 365 with odds of 1/2 to qualify for the quarter-finals by any means.
