England beat the Ivory Coast in a friendly match earlier this week by 3-0, courtesy of goals from Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins (30′), Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling (45′), and Villa defender Tyrone Mings (90’+3).
In the 40th minute, Ivorian right-back Serge Aurier, currently plying his trade in Spain with Villarreal, received his second yellow card and was consequently sent off. England winger Jack Grealish tried to convince Belgian referee Erik Lambrechts not to do that as it was a friendly match after all, but to no avail.
