Colombia striker Jackson Martinez is close to completing a surprising return to European football after only a couple of months in China.
According to reports from Il Mesaggero, the former Atletico Madrid man is being eyed by Serie A outfit Napoli, who are searching for a replacement for injured Arkadiusz Milik.
Martinez’s agent has already revealed that his client is leaving the door ajar for the potential suitors after his episode in China turned sour over the last couple of weeks.
The €42-million worth Guangzhou investment has scored only four goals since his summer arrival. Lack of form has cost Martinez his place in Colombia squad for the Copa America Centenario last summer and Jackson Martinez is keen to make a return to Europe in order to get back in Jose Peckerman’s favour.
The experienced Colombian international will have to accept a significant pay cut to his current deal which sees him earn €12 million per year, which could be the main stumbling block in his negotiations with Napoli in January.
