Jadon Sancho Is Exactly The Player Manchester United Need Right Now

Jadon Sancho will be one of the hottest commodities in the transfer market during before the start of the 2020-21 season – whenever that happens. The English international has already announced his intention to leave Borussia Dortmund, and his aim is quite clear. He wants to return to the English Premier League.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United were frontrunners to sign the 20-year-old until a few weeks ago. That, however, is no longer the case since both The Blues and The Reds have “ruled themselves out” of the race to sign Sancho. Now, Manchester United can make this a one-team race for a player that continues to look like a generational talent.

Sancho is ready to make any team better despite being just 20 years old. However, it’s not a secret that he’s also the perfect player for this specific Manchester United side under the tutelage of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Sancho seems perfect to play as a right winger

Looking at the team’s attacking depth, the issue is clear. Manchester United are set in the attacking midfielder role with Bruno Fernandes, Juan Mata, Andreas Pereira and even Paul Pogba if he stays. Anthony Martial, Daniel James and the returning Alexis Sanchez – who is currently on loan at Inter Milan – could operate on the left wing. Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Odion Ighalo and Martial can play upfront. But what about the right wing? Greenwood, Mata and James have featured there. However, none of those players fit naturally in that role.

Sancho would change that. He can play on both the right and the left flank, but there’s no secret he makes far more damage when operating on the right side of the pitch. The Englishman has 14 goals and 15 assists in 23 Bundesliga appearances this term. Of those, five goals and seven assists have come on the right wing. He has also scored five times as a left winger, but he has dished out just once in that role.

The margin is slim, but he would appear to be more comfortable on the right side. After all, that’s his stronger foot and, therefore, his dominant profile. He has enough talent to either cut inside or win the byline. But that would be something Solskjaer would have to decide once he signs with the club. Nothing is set in stone at this stage. But all signs indicate Sancho wants, in fact, to play for the Old Trafford club.

If that’s the case, then he could very well be the missing piece for a team that’s clearly on the rise. Especially after seeing their results since the start of the 2020 calendar.
