Dortmund’s England international Jadon Sancho will be hot property this summer. According to the Daily Mail, the youngster who turns 20 in March is looking to leave German giants this summer. There will certainly be no shortage of takers, as the former Manchester City youngster is one of the brightest young players in the European game.

Has the numbers to back up the potential

Sancho has not become a wanted man simply due to massive potential. He is not like most young players who are talked up without having produced anything concrete to deserve the hype.

The 19-year-old has now hit impressive numbers in his last two campaigns. Last season, which was his breakthrough campaign, the winger scored 12 Bundesliga goals and produced 14 assists. He is already only one assist short of matching his tally for the whole of last season.

Sancho also has the incredible honour of being the first teenager in the history of the Bundesliga to score 25 goals. That is a big feat considering the Bundesliga’s record in producing top young players in the last few decades.

Major clubs will battle it out for Sancho’s signature

The main clubs reported to be interested in signing the winger this summer are Premier League outfits Manchester United and Liverpool. Reportedly, Chelsea also held an interest in signing the England international but baulked at BVB’s reported asking price for the winger.

It would be difficult to say a move to Manchester United would be a good one for the youngster. The Red Devils are struggling to get back to anywhere near the top of the football tree. Currently, the men from Manchester are looking at missing out on Champions League football yet again for next season.

That would not be great for the highly ambitious Sancho, who would want to move to a club playing Champions League football. A move to United would be good for his bank balance, but Sancho comes across a sensible young guy, who would probably not see a pay rise as his main reason for moving clubs.

A move to Premier League champions-elect Liverpool would be a good one. He would likely challenge for the big trophies under a top-quality coach in Jurgen Klopp. However, the winger would not be first-choice in the Merseysider’s starting line-up, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino a permanent fixture in their starting line-up. In fact, Liverpool is probably the only top team in Europe that Sancho would not be an automatic starter.

Not playing on a regular basis would not be good for his development. That means a switch to Liverpool is unlikely unless something major happens with one of the Reds current front three.

Sancho may stay at Dortmund

It seems strange with so much interest in his services, but maybe it would be better for Jadon Sancho to stay at Dortmund. The move to BVB has made the winger. The German club are experts at developing players. Staying at Dortmund will mean Sancho continuing to play on a regular basis at the top-level of football in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

Dortmund are currently competing for the Bundesliga title and odds of 15/2 to finish the season as champions. BVB is a good place for Sancho to play his football and the youngster may not feel the need to move this summer.
