It’s crunch time for Scotland as Alex McLeish’s side welcome Israel to Hampden Park in a battle for promotion on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Scotland may have struggled to adjust to life under Alex McLeish, it appears that the Tartan Army may have finally found their form at the right time. Sat level on points with Isreal at the top of League C Group 1, a win on Tuesday would clinch promotion for Scotland. Putting on their best performance under the former Aston Villa boss, despite a lack of experienced players, they picked up a 4-0 win over Albania. Scoring twice in midweek, the hosts will be looking for Celtic forward James Forrest to carry on his impressive start to the season. The 27-year-old now has five in his last six for club and country.
As for the visitors, Israel find themselves in an almost identical situation to Scotland. Despite a slow start to the tournament, Andreas Herzog’s side have now won their last two UEFA Nations League matches, including a 2-0 win over Tuesday’s opponents last month. While the signs are promising, Israel have famously struggled on their travels. A side from a hard-fought win over Liechtenstein last November, the visitors have lost their other six matches away from home. They have also failed to register an away goal in 2018.
