James McCarthy linked with big club move

The Daily Star understands that Manchester City and Manchester United are both ready to move for Everton’s James McCarthy, if the midfielder fails to agree a new deal with the Toffees.

The 23 year old moved to Goodison Park just over twelve months ago on transfer deadline day, hurriedly agreeing terms in order for the £13m deal to go ahead, on the understanding that his contract could be improved based on his form.

The former Wigan Athletic man believes that he has earned a new deal, but talks are yet to commence leading him to be linked with a move away from Merseyside.

McCarthy has made forty-three appearances in all competitions for Everton, scoring his one and only goal for the club so far in the 2-0 victory at Hull City on the final day of last season while internationally; he has been capped twenty-four times for the Republic of Ireland.
