(GSM) – Veteran English goalkeeper David James is on the verge of a move from Portsmouth to English Premier League rivals Stoke City.
James, 39, still has hopes of being in the England squad for this summer’s World Cup in South Africa, but has appeared only 12 times in EPL play this season. Much of the recent action has been handed to young Bosnian star Asmir Begovic.
The goalkeeper has also appeared 47 times over the course of his international career in England, but Joe Hart is being tapped as the goalkeeper of the future for the Three Lions.
Thomas Sørensen, the regular first-team keeper for Stoke, has been rumored with a move of his own away from England, giving James a possible opportunity to prove himself to England manager Fabio Capello.
James has played for six teams over the course of his nearly 22-year footballing career in England, making roughly 600 EPL appearances in his storied tenure.
