On the flip side, eventually having to settle for an FA Cup replay away at Bristol City last weekend after playing out a 1-1 draw, Saturday’s guests are in the midst of an extended wobble. Opening the New Year with a 2-1 loss at home against Burnley on January 2nd, the Whites have remarkably won just one of their last 11 straight domestic contests. With Pompey slumping to that 1-0 loss in Greater Manchester earlier in the week, interim boss Simon Bassey has quite the job on his hands. Likewise, it should also be highlighted, the Blues have failed to win any of their last seven straight outings. While Brentford might have been disappointed to have seen their FA Cup adventure come to an end last weekend, the mood in Thomas Frank’s camp should still be at a real high. Last seen on Premier League duties opening 2023 with a famous 3-1 romp at home against Liverpool, the Bees are enjoying what has been a history-making campaign in west London this season. Sat ninth in the table and with some in their camp even dreaming of a European charge, Saturday’s hosts have picked up a string of heavyweight scalps on either side of the World Cup break. Heading into the festive interval with a remarkable 2-1 win away at defending champions Manchester City, Frank’s side have taken 10 points from their previous four Premier League outings. Hopeful that they can welcome back attacking talisman Ivan Toney here, Brentford should be relishing Bournemouth’s arrival this weekend. With the Cherries suffering a real FA Cup hammering at the hands of Championship outfit Burnley last time out, Gary O’Neil’s side appear destined for a relegation scrap in 2023. Opening the New Year with a routine 3-0 defeat away at Manchester United, Saturday’s guests have now lost each of their last five domestic matchups across all formats. Winning just one of their previous five meetings against the top-half contenders, we’re backing what could be an enjoyable home victory.
