January 1st: New Year’s Day Double – 3/1 Special, Betting Tips & Predictions

As we officially enter 2025 on Wednesday afternoon, we have a stacked English schedule from up and down the country on New Year’s Day.

With just a single Premier League showdown on the cards, Wednesday’s schedule will be highlighted by England’s lower leagues.

Ahead of what should be a dramatic afternoon of action on New Year’s Day, we have taken a look at a couple of the most appealing betting tips that are available on Wednesday.

15:00 Rochdale vs Altrincham

While Rochdale might have suffered real frustration last season as they missed out on a play-off ticket, Wednesday’s hosts are pencilled in as a standout top-six contender this time around. Last seen on Boxing Day putting in a thumping performance as they stormed their way to a 3-1 romp away at AFC Fylde, Jimmy McNulty’s men have now won three of their previous four appearances across all competitions. Extending on their FA Trophy adventure on December 10th as they secured a routine 2-0 victory against Leamington, the Manchester-based outfit will be looking to open the New Year with another statement of intent. Breezing their way to a 3-0 win against Tamworth last month, Rochdale have also largely impressed with their success at the Spotland Stadium. Opening Wednesday’s showdown holding a three-point buffer from dropping out of the play-off places, McNulty’s camp have won three of their last four matchups in front of their own supporters.

Although Altrincham might open the New Year sat within touching distance of breaking into the play-off places, the Robins are seeking some recent stability. Signing off 2024 with a 0-0 stalemate at home against Halifax, Phil Parkinson’s side have recorded just a single victory from any of their previous five appearances across all competitions within 90 minuets. Hit with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Woking last month, Wednesday’s guests have also shown some extended issues away from Moss Lane. Including another 2-1 defeat against Aldershot on November 23rd, Altrincham have mustered just two points from any of their last four National League showdowns on their travels. It should also be highlighted, the Robins have registered just a single away victory across any competition on the road since way back on September 28th. Hit with a 3-0 drumming when they last travelled to the Spotland Stadium back in November 2023, we are expecting a similar outcome here.

15:00 Kidderminster vs Rushall

Losing their National League status last season, it is no secret that Kidderminster have their sights firmly set on booking an immediate fifth-tier return in 2025. Opening the New Year lead the chase at the top of the National League North table, Phil Brown’s men are pencilled in as a standout promotion contender this season. Last seen on Boxing Day putting in another dominant display as they stormed their way to a 3-0 romp away at Hereford, the one-time Hull boss finds his squad in the midst of a real purple patch. Winning each of their previous four consecutive National League North appearances by an aggregate score of 10-0, Wednesday’s hosts will simply be looking to make another statement. Extending on their FA Trophy adventure last month as they edged past fifth-tier outfit AFC Fylde, the Harries have won nine of their previous 10 matchups across all competitions. With that run stemming all the way back to a 2-2 stalemate against Buxton on November 2nd, Kidderminster will be smelling a golden opportunity here.

While the mood in Kidderminster’s camp might be at a red-hot high, Rushall find themselves at the heart of a real struggle. Last seen on Boxing Day getting hit with a 2-1 loss at home against Oxford City, the Pics are sat rock-bottom of the National League North table and are already seeking a New Year miracle. Opening 2025 sat 12 points adrift of safety, Wednesday’s guests couldn’t have asked for a tougher challenge here. Crashing out of the FA Trophy last month following another 2-1 defeat against Gainsborough, Richard Sneekes’ side have lost each of their previous seven appearances across all competitions. With their woeful rut underlined by a 7-0 drumming at the hands of South Shields on December 10th, Rushall have also failed to collect a single National League North victory since the start of October. Gaining a reputation for their glaring defensive issues, the leading relegation contenders have also shipped 48 sixth-tier strikes so far this season.
