January 9th: Thursday’s FA Cup Double – 5/1 Special, Betting Tips & Predictions

With the FA Cup getting back underway in midweek, we have two Premier League clubs that will be looking to avoid an early exit.

Alongside Everton welcoming Peterborough to Goodison Park, Fulham will also host Championship outfit Watford on Thursday night.

For those of you looking to stick on a midweek FA Cup flutter, we have taken a look at two of the most appealing Thursday betting tips.

19:45 Everton vs Peterborough

Putting in another toothless performance last weekend as they fell to a 1-0 loss away at Bournemouth, Everton find themselves at the heart of another public struggle. Signing off 2024 with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest, the pressure on Sean Dyche’s shoulders is at a boiling point. In the midst of another Premier League relegation scrap, the Toffees have recorded just a single victory from any of their previous 11 consecutive appearances. With that rut stemming all the way back to a 2-0 win away at Ipswich on October 19th, Everton are seeking a much-needed clinical edge in the final third. Despite snatching a 1-1 stalemate against defending champions Manchester City last month, that is the only goal that Dyche’s squad have scored in any of their last five outings. It should also be highlighted, Everton have drawn a blank in three of their previous four showdowns at Goodison Park.

While Peterborough might have opened up the new campaign once again pencilled in as a standout play-off contender, Thursday’s guests are enduring their own public struggle. Scrapping it out at the foot of the League One table, Darren Ferguson’s men have come under some serious scrutiny. Getting the New Year underway with a 1-0 loss away at Wrexham, the Posh have collected just a single point from any of their previous five League One appearances. Putting just a single third-tier victory on the board since way back on November 9th, Peterborough have also continued to show some glaring issues away from London Road. Including consecutive 2-1 defeats against Stockport and Northampton, Ferguson’s side have bagged just a sole win from any of their last 10 showdowns outside of Cambridgeshire. Although the Blues might be relishing a chance to steal centre stage here, we are not expecting a major giant slaying.

19:45 Fulham vs Watford

While Fulham might have been forced to settle for a single point in five of their previous six Premier League appearances, the Cottagers have gained a string of plaudits this season. Despite playing out consecutive 2-2 stalemates on either side of opening the New Year, Marco Silva’s men are dreaming of the chance to mount a genuine European charge in 2025. Mounting a sensational comeback away at bitter local rivals Chelsea last month as they clinched a famous 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge, the former Everton boss has not seen his squad suffer a single defeat from any of their previous eight outings. With that run stemming all the way back to November 23rd, Fulham will be dreaming of a real FA Cup adventure this season. Although the Cottagers might have failed to collect a single victory at Craven Cottage over the past month, Silva’s side will be smelling a golden opportunity in midweek.

Although Watford might have been enjoying an eye-catching flurry on either side of November’s international break, the Hornets have come crashing back down to earth in a worrying fashion. Opening the New Year with a 3-1 loss at the hands of QPR, Tom Cleverley’s men have watched their play-off dreams take a major dent. Last seen falling to a 2-1 defeat at home against Sheffield United, the one-time Manchester United midfielder has seen his squad lose all of their previous three Championship appearances by an aggregate score of 7-3. Tumbling down the table and bracing themselves for what will be another real examination in west London, Watford have also lost four of their last five Championship showdowns. Along with registering just a pair of points away from Vicarage Road from their last five attempts, the Hornets have also landed just a single Championship win on their travels since the opening weekend.
