Former Japan international striker Naohiro Takahara has been transferred to South Korean powerhouse Suwon Samsung Bluewings, officials at the J-League’s Urawa Red Diamonds said on Friday.

The 31-year-old forward, who moved to Urawa from the Bundesliga’s Eintracht Frankfurt in 2008, has scored 23 goals for Japan and 68 goals in 168 games in the J-League first division, becoming the top goal scorer in 2002.

“I’d like to thank my supporters for their help in the past two and a half years. I’m going to do my best to help my new club, Suwon Samsung, keep winning,” Takahara said in a statement.

Takahara, who also played for German club Hamburger SV, scored a total of 25 goals in 135 games in his six seasons in the Bundesliga.

Suwon Samsung have been struggling this season at 11th place in the K-League, but reached the quarter-finals in the AFC Champions League.
