Shimizu S-Pulse midfielder Hideki Ishige is set to join Manchester City for a trial, according to the Japanese club.
The talented youngster has been attracting a lot of attention from top European clubs with his performances this season, even if this is his first professional campaign.
Japanese media recently reported that Manchester City had made an official bid for the player’s services, but Shimizu manager Afshin Ghotbi has moved to deny the speculation.
He did, however, confirm that the player is set to link up with Manchester City for a trial.
“If you want to build top-class players, you have to give them various experiences and opportunities to see first-hand what the world level is about,” Ghotbi told Japanese news agency Kyodo News.
“And what better experience for Ishige than to train with the first team of Manchester City and have Roberto Mancini see him first hand and train with some of the top players in the world.”
Ghotbi reveals that Manchester City are not the only high-profile club interested in the 18-year-old.
“There is interest in him, not just Man City but many clubs in Europe and he deserves it. He’s a real fantastic talent.”
Hideki Ishige has made no less than 13 league appearances this season, while making another 8 in Japanese League Cup.
