West Ham United midfielder Matt Jarvis has revealed that Wigan’s FA Cup win has inspired them to seek their own silverware.
The Premier League club returned to the top flight last season and finished in 10th place, but have not secured any trophies since 1999 when they picked up the Intertoto Cup.
And Jarvis, who arrived at Upton Park from Wolves in 2012, has insisted that Wigan’s surprise victory last year has whet his desire for glory.
“What Wigan did in beating Manchester City to lift the FA Cup has made clubs like us realise it can be done now – that trophies are not the preserve of the so-called big boys,” he said.
“Our first aim will be to go on a winning spree in the Premier League so that when the cup competitions come around, we’ll be able to hit the ground running.
“We have ambitious players here. There isn’t one of us who does not want to win a trophy.”
The East London club will be buoyed in their pursuit of success by the addition of England international Andy Carroll, who made his loan deal from Liverpool permanent last month.
