The agent of Athletic Bilbao star Javi Martinez has stated that his client is interested in joining Bayern Munich.
The Bavarians are very keen on the Spain international and have long ago expressed their interest in signing the player, but they were unable to wrap up the deal because of the high asking price.
The highly rated midfielder has a €40 million release clause in his contract and Athletic Bilbao will not settle for anything less.
However, the player’s representative Ersin Akan has now revealed that Martinez is tempted by the Bayern Munich link, adding fuel to speculations that the Spaniard will join the German giants in the summer transfer window.
“He wants to go to Bayern, and Bayern are still interested in signing him,” Akan was quoted as saying by Sport1. “I know that they still want him, but the transfer fee is a problem.
“He’s just waiting to see how things pan out, but he would like it if the transfer takes place. I’d say chances that it will go ahead are 50-50 now.”
The 23-year-old could be the second high-profile player to leave San Mames this summer, after Fernando Llorente expressed his desire to leave the club this summer.
Despite his fragile age, Martinez has already made 202 La Liga appearances for los Leones, scoring 22 goals in the process.
