Javi Martinez welcomes transfer talk

Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez has welcomed reports linking him with a number of high-profile clubs.

The 23-year-old is enjoying a remarkable season with los Leones and he was recently linked with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.

The player, who has a €40 million clause inserted in his contract, is one of the hottest commodities in world football, but he doesn’t think he is worth that much.

“I do not think there is anyone who wants to pay so much for me. I do not think I’m worth that much; I’m not worth €40M”, Martinez said to El Mundo Deportivo.

The highly rated midfielder who can also play as a centre-back admits he is flattered by reports linking him to top European sides.

“I’m not saying anything now. These things are always going on in the football world.

“It is very nice to be talked about in the papers though and it is a product of what you are doing and it suggests you are doing the right things.”

Martinez joined Athletic Bilbao in a €6 million deal from Osasuna in July 2006 and has since developed into one of the best midfielders in Spanish La Liga.

Even if he was mostly used as a defender this term, the Spain international managed to score 3 goals in 22 La Liga games this season.
