Premier League sides Sunderland and West Ham are considering January bids for Rennes midfielder Jean II Makoun, according to Daily Mirror.
The two clubs have been alerted of the player’s availability and are expected to step up their interest in the coming weeks.
Jean II Makoun has fallen out of favour at Stade de la Route de Lorient after refusing to sign a new contract and he only made one league appearance this season.
Given that his current deal is due to expire in June, the 31-year-old will be available on the cheap this winter.
Makoun already has some Premier League experience, having featured in seven matches for Aston Villa during the 2010/2011 campaign.
Following a successful loan spell with Olympiakos, the Cameroon midfielder was loaned to Rennes before les Bretons turned his deal into permanent move. Makoun made a total of 59 league appearances for the club, scoring 3 goals.
