Firstly, as my regular readers know, I am a big fan of Barcelona.
However due to the quality of the player at the Nou Camp young winger Jeffren Suarez’s chances of first team football have been limited in his career so far. I would suggest the only solution is a move elsewhere.
Frustrated
Jeffren is in fact 23 and not really that young. Unfortunately he has made just 35 appearances for Barca since breaking into the first team squad five years ago. If he was at most other clubs he probably would have made a century of appearances by now.
The winger is hoping to stay at the Nou Camp and establish himself in the first team next season. However I think staying at Barcelona would serious hinder the development of his career.
With the players in the Barcelona squad he’s unlikely to have much of a chance of becoming a first team regular next season. He will need to move elsewhere if he is to fulfil his potential.
Lively
Jeffren has looked lively in his limited appearances for both Barca and Spanish under-21 international side. In fact his displays for the European Championship winning Spanish youngsters has brought him new admirers.
International
Jeffren has decided to nail his colours to the Spanish mast after being offered the chance to turn out for the country of his birth Venezuela in 2007. The winger decided that he wanted to represent the country he had lived in since he was one year of age instead.
And he got his reward for that decision earlier this summer as he was part of the Spanish under-21 side that claimed the European Championship in Denmark.
Move
The Venezuelan-born winger has been linked with a move elsewhere for the last few seasons. However it seems that clubs are now prepared to turn their interest into solid bids this summer.
Premier League Liverpool and La Liga side Valencia have shown an interest in the winger. He has also been linked with a move to Udinese as part of a deal involving attacker Alexis Sanchez.
Jeffren didn’t fancy the move to Udine though and Spanish La Liga side Sevilla are now believed to be the favourites to sign him. The wingers agent has hinted that their has been contact from Seville to Barcelona about Jeffren.
Timing
Jeffren is unfortunate, rather like fellow youngster Bojan Krkic, in that his way to the first team was blocked by superstars. In another era the pair could have became first team regulars but instead they will have to carry on their careers away from the Nou Camp.
Bargain
Jeffren could prove a bargain, as he is believed to be rated in the region of £7million. For that fee he could be a really good signing. I’m not surprised that Jeffren is attracting from the Premier League.
He has been given a good football education at Barcelona and is starting to show his quality. Jeffren would be a very good signing for any Premier League side. He has the pace, vision and crossing ability that would be perfect for the English top flight.
Who will sign Jeffren Suarez this summer?
