Auxerre’s Polish striker Ireneusz Jelen will on Monday undergo a knee operation in Poland by the same surgeon who operated on him in June, Auxerre coach Jean Fernandez revealed on Saturday.

“Jelen has a swollen knee and he’ll have an operation on Monday morning in Poland, because we don’t really know what he has,” said Fernandez after AJA’s 2-1 win at home to Rennes.

“After the first operation in June there was a recovery procedure that was perhaps not respected, which explains this setback.”

Jelen made his last appearance for Auxerre as a second-half substitute in their 1-0 defeat at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League at the end of September.

Fernandez added that Jelen is likely to be out for a further two months.
