Jenkins hopes to keep Rodgers at Swansea

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins says he expects manager Brendan Rodgers to attract interest from top Premier League clubs this summer.

Rodgers has been linked with the Chelsea job in recent weeks and it is also thought that Tottenham will move for the 39-year-old, should Harry Redknapp become England manager.

The Swans have won plaudits for their performances in their debut Premier League season, with the former Watford boss praised for his side’s playing style, but Jenkins said he would try to ensure that no-one leaves.

“It’s what happens when you do well – players get recognition, managers get recognition,” Jenkins said.

“Speculation is part of football. I can’t predict the future but we will do all we can to keep our manager and players at Swansea.”

Jenkins understands that every manager wants to challenge for trophies eventually but would attempt to persuade Rodgers to stay in south Wales should any approach ensue.

The chairman hopes his experience of losing other promising coaches will help him to persuade Rodgers to remain at the Liberty Stadium and take the Swans even further.

“If there is an approach then I will sit down with Brendan and explain as well as I can why he should stay,” he said.

“As a dream, we can take the club further.”

He added: “I have experienced this before when Roberto Martinez left (for Wigan). He is a young man and I understand that if offers materialise he will ask himself questions.

“I am probably one of the best people that can talk it through with him should that discussion happen. I know Brendan is very happy here but I also know that if an approach comes, then I will fight to keep him.”
