Everton have signed Brazil striker Jo on loan from Premier League rivals Manchester City for the remainder of the season, the Merseyside club announced on their official website here Monday.
The deal, Everton’s first of the January transfer window, was made public just hours ahead of the 1700GMT Monday deadline.
Officials from the two clubs met in Manchester on Saturday and Jo, who has since agreed personal terms, was due to put pen to paper at Everton’s training ground on Monday.
Jo became something of an 18 million pounds misfit at Manchester City since his pre-season arrival from Russian side CSKA Moscow.
The 21-year-old has made 12 starts for City, scoring three goals, but has lately fallen out of favour with manager Mark Hughes.
Jo made his name in Brazil with Corinthians before joining CSKA, where he scored 30 goals in 50 starts, in 2006.
His arrival is timely for Everton, who have been having to play Australia midfielder Tim Cahill up front as a lone striker because of injuries.
Toffees forwards Yakubu and James Vaughan are already out for the season while Louis Saha is currently recovering from a hamstring problem.
