Portuguese defender Joao Cancelo has informed Valencia chiefs that he is not interested in joining Barcelona this winter, according to El Mundo Deportivo.
It is no secret that the 22-year-old has emerged as the primary target for the Catalans and they were thinking about making an official offer in the January window.
However, while Cancelo would have seriously considered moving to Camp Nou few weeks back, he has since changed his mind.
Namely, the youngster has been relishing the more advanced role assigned to him by new boss Voro and he is not ready to endanger his place in the Portugal national team by joining Barcelona and risking playing second fiddle to Sergi Roberto.
Cancelo, on the other hand, has several offers from English Premier League that guarantee him regular playing time, and it appears that the Barcelona switch is off, at least for the time being.
The Portugal international quickly developed into one of La Liga’s leading full-backs, making 55 league appearances for los Che.
