Joaquin says Malaga are close to realising ‘an impressive dream’ ahead of their Champions League quarter-final with Borussia Dortmund.

The Spanish side have reached the last eight of the tournament in just their first appearance in the competition and the former Betis and Valencia winger says he cannot wait for another special European night.

“These are the matches we like to play as players. We are pleased to be able to enjoy this atmosphere with the fans,” he said ahead of the first leg of the tie on Wednesday.

“The Malaga fans will be plentiful all around the stadium.

“These are games where the big teams show their mettle. At home we have not yet said the last word.”

And despite the bookmakers dismissing Malaga’s chances of advancing to the semi-finals, Joaquin is firmly focused on continuing their dream campaign in Europe’s elite competition.

“We are very close to an impressive dream, and none of us are ready to wake up from it yet,” he added.
