Burnley have decided not to offer Joe Hart a new contract, and the former England international will therefore leave the club as a free agent at the end of the month, according to multiple sources.
Hart spent six years at Manchester City, winning two Premier League titles under Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini, but when Pep Guardiola took over in 2016 and brought Claudio Bravo with him, he lost his place in the team. He was loaned out twice, to Torino and West Ham, before making a permanent switch to Burnley in 2018.
However, Hart has stood between the posts only three times this season (none in the Premier League) , with Nick Pope reinstated as manager Sean Dyche’s first choice for the role. He is still on his initial two-year contract, which is now about to expire, and the Clarets apparently don’t see a reason to offer him a new one. Last year they signed Bailey Peacock-Farrell from Leeds United, and it’s highly likely the 23-year-old will now take Hart’s place as the backup for Pope.
