John Barnes has said that Joe Hart is a very good signing for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.
The former Liverpool star has praised Spurs for being able to secure the services of the ex-Manchester City goalkeeper.
The 33-year-old has moved to Tottenham on a two-year contract on a free transfer following his departure from Burnley at the end of June.
Michel Vorm’s departure from Spurs earlier this summer meant that there was a space in the North London club’s squad for a new goalkeeper.
Barnes said: “Joe Hart will bring in a lot of experience to Tottenham. He is a player that you can bring into the team and you know what you are going to get.
“To bring in a goalkeeper of that quality is a huge coup, and if they have to play him, they know that they can rely on him to perform.
“It is a great signing, especially as a free transfer. If he is happy to come in and be a second or third choice keeper, then it is a win-win for both parties.”
Good signing for Tottenham Hotspur?
Hart is not the player he was when he was at his prime at City, but he remains a capable footballer with a wealth of experience.
The former Burnley goalkeeper will bring a winning mentality to the Tottenham team, and he will also push Hugo Lloris.
Lloris is the first-choice goalkeeper at Spurs, but the France international has made mistakes from time to time.
Hart will give Lloris stiff competition for a place in the starting lineup, and that is only going to be healthy for Tottenham, who are rated at 9/1 by Betfair to sign Gareth Bale Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
