Johnny Heitinga set for Hertha exit

Former Everton defender Johnny Heitinga could be leaving Hertha in the January transfer window, Bild can reveal.

The experienced defender arrived at Olympiastadion in Berlin as a marquee signing in the summer, and was hoping to get back in the national team with some strong performances in Bundesliga.

However, while he began the season as a starting defender, Heitinga has since lost his place in the side and has failed to make a single league appearance for some month and a half.

According to Bild, the 31-year-old is now fifth choice central defender in the squad, and everything suggests he will be leaving the Old Lady at the earliest opportunity.

Heitinga, who also represented Ajax, Atletico Madrid and Everton, should have no shortage of offers in case Hertha decide to cash in on him.

After playing out a 4-4 entertaining draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek, the Old Lady is 6/4 to defeat Hoffenheim in Sunday.
