With a chance to leapfrog FC Dallas at the top of the Western Conference, in form Sporting Kansas City will welcome Minnesota to Children’s Mercy Park on Sunday.

Starting with Peter Vermes’ Sporting KC side, although they may have fallen off the pace last month, the hosts appear to be back to their fine form. Coming off the back of a 3-0 win over Portland last time out, Sporting have now won their last three matches on the bounce and a win will see them sit atop of the West. Now scoring six in their last three, one man to watch is former Derby man Johnny Russell. The leading goalscorer for the hosts, the winger now has three in three for The Whites.

As for Carl Craig’s Minnesota side, although they may have enjoyed a mid-season bounce last month, they have now slipped back to their old ways. Coming off the back of a 2-0 loss to fellow Western heavy hitters Dallas, United have now lost three of their last four and their defensive record will be a huge concern for Craig. Conceding 10 in their last four, they now hold the worst defensive record in the West and keeping out Johnny Russell and co will be a tough task for Minnesota.
