Daily Express has suggested that England defender Glen Johnson will have to accept a pay cut if he is to remain at Anfield.
The 29-year-old has been one of club’s star performers for several years now, but his high wage is proving to be a big burden on the budget.
Johnson is currently earning around £110,000 per week and everything suggests he will be asked to accept a pay cut in order to sign a new contract.
The England international’s current deal does not expire before June 2015, but it remains to be seen how he will feel about the new contract offer that is likely to arrive in the near future.
Johnson has featured in 115 Premier League games for Liverpool since he arrived from Portsmuth and has scored 7 goals.
Meanwhile, he has nailed down a regular starting berth in the national team and has made 4 starts in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
