Johstone linked with permanent Aston Villa switch

Aston Villa will attempt to sign goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a permanent basis when the transfer window reopens in January, according to the Metro.

The twenty-four year old has been on loan at Villa Park since January and is a good run of form having kept clean sheets in five of his last six appearances helping his side move to within a point of the Championship play-off places.

Johnstone officially remains a Manchester United player having turned professional in 2011 but is yet to make a senior appearance for his parent club.

He was sent out on loan to Oldham Athletic but never featured before joining up with Scunthorpe Town while he has also spent time with Walsall, Yeovil Town, Doncaster Rovers and Preston North End, helping the latter achieve promotion from League One via the play-offs in 2015.

Internationally, he has represented England at every level from U16 to U20.
