Jol looks to bolster forward options

Fulham manager Martin Jol has revealed he wants to sign another striker before the close of the transfer window.

John Arne Riise, Marcel Gecov and Pajtim Kasami have all arrived at Craven Cottage this summer, but Jol feels the squad remains a little light in attacking positions.

The Dutchman was unhappy at his side’s inability to convert any of their chances in Saturday’s goalless draw with Aston Villa, and indicated after the match that signing a striker before the close of the transfer window is his priority.

“I feel there is more to come from Zamora and Johnson but we played too many long balls to Bobby. I’d like to add a few things going forward,” Jol said.

“We saw on Saturday (against Aston Villa) if we swap our No.9 I have to put Clint Dempsey there and I don’t want to do that.”

“That’s why we will try to do something in the transfer window. Does that mean a striker is my priority? Maybe.”

If a striker is to arrive, Jol admits the club’s limited financial resources mean any deal would have to be done at a reasonable price.

But if a suitable target cannot be found, the Dutchman insists he is pleased with the squad he has inherited.

“We are not going to be able to compete financially with some of the other teams but the spirit here is great,” he said.
