Martin Jol has revealed that Fulham are close to signing a midfielder, but it will not be one two players they have been heavily linked with – Owen Hargreaves and Nigel Reo-Coker, Talk Sport reports.
Jol is diving into the free agent market after losing a number of midfielders in the summer transfer window, and then being dealt another big blow as Mahamadou Diarra will be out for a month with a knee injury.
Many had tipped one of Reo-Coker of Hargreaves to be heading the Craven Cottage, but the Dutch manager insists that the man he is close to bring to the club comes from abroad.
Jol said: “I hope to sign a central midfielder in the next couple of days. He will be on a non-contract basis and from abroad.”
When I came to revealing who it was that he was due to sign, the Fulham boss was keeping his cards very close to his chest.
Some believe that Jol is looking to his native Holland to find an experienced midfielder that he can bring to the English Premier League, but with so many options it is very tough to call.
He is likely to bring someone in next week and they could be ready for action straight away.
