The Premier League strugglers Sunderland have moved to offer the experienced defender Joleon Lescott a short-term deal until the end of the season, The Mirror is reporting.
Former West Brom and Aston Villa centre-back was last playing for the AEK Athens, before his spell in Greece was cut short over disagreements with the club about injury rehabilitation.
And the 34-year-old is now tipped to make a Premier League return as the Black Cats are prepared to take him onboard as a replacement for Patrick van Aanholt, who is on his way to Crystal Palace.
Lescott has been training with Sunderland for a while and David Moyes is prepared to reunite with the player he worked with while at Everton.
The veteran defender will provide Sunderland with experience that could be very helpful in the club’s efforts to stay up in the top tier.
Sunderland are currently rock bottom with only 15 points after 22 rounds.
