Benfica veteran striker Jonas Goncalves is enjoying a stellar season in Portugal.
The 33-year-old forward has scored 31 goals in 27 Primeira Liga appearances this season which puts him top of the Europe’s goalscoring list in front of Mohamed Salah and Lionel Messi when it comes to league goals this term.
His flying form is causing quite a stir and raising a couple of questions dealing with a possibility to participate in the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup. At the same time a couple of clubs – most notably from the Chinese Super League – are beginning to take interest in his services.
Jonas is not getting any younger and a chance to move to China could be his final opportunity to upgrade his earning significantly but his brother Tiago Goncalves claims Jonas has no intention to leave Lisbon.
“It will be impossible to take Jonas away from Benfica. He is not interested in a year or two in China. Money can’t buy you everything. He is happy in Lisbon and is determined to stay in Portugal where he feels extremely comfortable”, Tiago Goncalves was quoted by Ojogo.
The experienced Brazilian forward joined Benfica from Valencia back in 2014.
