Manchester United defender Phil Jones believes Manchester City can be reeled in from their place atop the English Premier League table.
The 19-year-old believes that United can still win the title even if City – who thumped their bitter rivals 6-1 in October – maintain their lead going into the Christmas period.
“City have done fantastically this season, I am not taking anything away from them,” the ex-Blackburn man told Sky Sports.
“But they do have some tough games coming up. I don’t care how good you are, teams can be put under pressure. This is a difficult league to be in.”
“It would be nice to reach top spot by Christmas, but it is not essential.”
“Don’t be writing us off if we are not there by January.”
United may get their first chance to erode City’s five-point lead on Saturday, with Jones and his team-mates taking on Newcastle United.
City are in action a day later, away to Liverpool ahead of similarly tricky encounters with Chelsea and Arsenal.
