Jordan Henderson has reached an agreement with Al-Ettifaq to have his contract terminated, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The 33-year-old left Liverpool last summer in rather controversial circumstances to join the Saudi club. His choice of destination was strongly criticized in the British press due to his previous efforts to help the LGBTQ+ community in their fight for equality. At the time, Henderson defended his decision, saying that his aim was to help build the club and the league, as well as to work with former teammate Steven Gerrard who apparently wanted him there very much. However, it seems he has backtracked on those words only a couple of months later.
The former Liverpool captain is believed to be very close to reaching an agreement to join Ajax, who have started to recover after a shockingly poor start to the season, with five wins and two draws in their last seven Eredivisie matches.
