The Telegraph understands that Southampton have come to terms with losing captain Jose Fonte in the January transfer window.
The Portuguese international is a target for England’s top clubs that include Manchester United and Chelsea, while his current deal is due to expire in June 2018.
And after Fonte rejected yet another lucrative contract offer from the club, Southampton are ready to entertain bids for his services.
The Saints are ready to consider proposals in the region of £5 million, and everything suggests that the 32-year-old will be joining a top European club in January.
Jose Fonte has proved to be one of the best signings in club’s recent history, having joined from Crystal Palace for mere £1.2 million.
The Portuguese defender went on to make 256 league appearances for the Saints, helping them go from League One to the Premiership and putting in some excellent displays in the top flight.
