Spanish media outlet Marca has moved to suggest that Uruguayan defender Jose Maria Gimenez is nearing Vicente Calderon exit.
Despite being regarded as one of world’s most talented centre-backs, the 21-year-old is now behind Diego Godin, Stefan Savic and Lucas Hernandez in the pecking order, and he is clearly not happy with his current status.
Gimenez has only featured in one La Liga fixture this term and his official representative has confirmed that January exit is a realistic possibility.
The only problem is that Atletico Madrid would be unable to sign a replacement in case the Uruguayan leaves due to their transfer ban.
On top of that, los Colchoneros still believe that Gimenez has the potential to become a world-class defender and they do not seem prepared to let him go just yet.
The Uruguay international has featured in 48 La Liga fixtures since joining from Danubio, netting two times.
