New Internazionale manager Jose Mourinho has made Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard his number-one target for the summer for the third time in his career, only to be rejected by the star yet again according to the News of the World.
Whilst at Chelsea, Mourinho had made two reported attempts to sign Gerrard from Liverpool in big-money transfer deals, only for both deals to fall through at the last minute after Gerrard decided to stay on at Anfield.
Inter had hoped to capitalise on Liverpool’s current turmoil by offering Gerrard an escape-route among the chaos, which Gerrard has admitted to be a problem before.
But despite Gerrard’s concerns with the boardroom dilemma, Mourinho has been told that he is wasting his time in expressing interest for the Liverpool captain according to the News of the World.
Gerrard, 28, has also publicly expressed his disappointment at Liverpool’s failure to become substantial title challengers over the past few years and the star believes the ongoing ownership dilemma has done nothing but put the club in a worse position.
Gerrard has been captain of his boyhood club since 2003 and so far all indications suggest that he will remain at the club at least for another season. Gerrard has expressed his enthusiasm about the potential signing of England team-mate Gareth Barry, who would be likely to pair up with Gerrard in the centre of midfield at Anfield.
