Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has been linked to a return to Stamford Bridge today, putting pressure on the top managers in the English Premier League, according to Andre Villas-Boas.
Mourinho has always expressed his liking for the English game, and may just do the unthinkable and leave Real Madrid for lesser pastures.
Villas-Boas shadowed Mourinho at Chelsea before moving on to become to boss of FC Porto, a title also once held by the “Special One”.
That being said, the 34-year-old has dismissed reports linking Mourinho with a return to Stamford Bridge.
“At the moment, there is not a vacancy at this club – that is the most important thing. And the Real Madrid manager is not available at the moment,” AVB told reporters on Friday.
“He’s tied to the best club in the world. The only thing I can say is that I have lived Jose’s availability when we were out of Chelsea and we know and I know how many clubs came knocking on our doors.
“So, a manager of Jose’s dimension and the number one in the world will always be an attractive target for whatever club.”
Villas-Boas said all the right things on Friday, but Roman Abramovich is the man who will ultimately make the decision.
I think that if Mourinho will return to England if he wins the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid in 2012.
As for which club he will boss, I can not be sure, but there are many potential fits including: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
“Because he’s a manager that makes himself available to return to his beloved England will for sure capture the interests of City, United and Chelsea and Tottenham and Liverpool and Arsenal, and so on and so forth,” added AVB.
“So, in that sense, we are all under pressure, from Mancini to Ferguson to me to Dalglish to Harry Redknapp and so on.”
There’s no doubt that the “Special One” will be highly sought after if and when he decides to leave Madrid.
Personally, I think the best fit for Mourinho would be Tottenham or Arsenal.
Spurs and the Gunners play a similar style to that of Madrid, making the transition for Jose that much easier.
Frankly, any Premier League club would be lucky to have him.
For United, he could be the heir apparent to Sir Alex Ferguson.
If he returns to Stamford Bridge, he may finally win the Champions League for Roman Abramovich.
One club that I can not imagine Mourinho joining is Liverpool. It just doesn’t make sense to replace Kenny Dalglish at the moment.
That’s all for today. Stay tuned for more on this story in the coming weeks.
