Josip Elez on Schalke radar

Bundesliga outfit Schalke are readying summer bid for HNK Rijeka defender Josip Elez, according to Bild.

The centre-back, who can also operate as a holding midfielder, joined Lazio from Hajduk Split back in 2013, but eventually returned to Croatia, signing a deal with his current employers following loan spells with Grosseto, Honved and AGF.

Elez had an important role to play as HNK Rijeka claimed an unlikely title win, and Schalke were one of the clubs to take notice of his impressive performances.

The Miners are prepared to offer around €5 million for the talented footballer, giving his current club a chance to earn a healthy profit on Elez, having paid mere €450,000 for his services last month as they exercised a buy-out option.

The 23-year-old made 34 league appearances last season, scoring 2 goals and producing 4 assists in the process.
